Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year

Greetings Northrop School Community,

It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new Principal of Northrop Community School.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school dedicated to high achievement for all learners with a focus on urban environmental learning.

Throughout the summer I have been fortunate to have had many interactions with teachers, parents, and students.  From these conversations, it is evident there is great pride in our school community and a high level of dedication to providing the best possible education for our students.  In the months ahead, I look forward to meeting all staff, students, and families and to fostering these relationships to provide a world-class educational experience for each child.

I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than fourteen years with concentration in literacy, environmental education, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education, differentiation, and standards-based grading.  My most recent administrative experience has been five years of successful leadership as a District Curriculum Coordinator.  I am thrilled to bring my skills as an instructional leader to Northrop Community School and Minneapolis Public Schools and to partner with students, staff, parents, and our community to ensure each child's success.

I am eager and excited to begin the 2016-2017 school year!  This year is going to be a "powerful" year as we identify the strengths of all members of our school community. We will call upon our strengths to help us continue our focus on academic excellence for all learners.

As your Northrop Principal, it is important to me that everyone who enters our building feels welcome, positive, and excited to be here.  These beliefs will enable us to meet the challenges of academic excellence.  I welcome the opportunity to talk with you and to seek your input and feedback.  Please feel free to stop in, call, or email me to discuss any ideas, suggestions, or concerns to help make this year the best year yet!
