NORTHROP FAQ 22-23 School Year

Transportation: 

Who do I notify if I want to change my student’s going home plan? Please call the office at 612-668-4520 NO LATER than 2:30 the day of to request a change in your child’s plans going home. If no one answers, please leave a message.

I have questions or changes in regards to my student’s transportation. Who do I ask? Please email Anni Meiser at andrea.mieser@mpls.k12.mn.us or call at 612-668-4523.

My student’s bus is late. Who can I contact? Please call the transportation line at 612-668-2300 to report a late bus. It is important information for dispatch to know that buses are not running on time. 

Technology

Will my student have a device assigned to them? Yes. All students will be assigned a device this year. This will happen during the school day. Students in grades in K-2 will be assigned an ipad and students in grades 3-5 will be assigned a chromebook. 

Morning Routines 

What are the bell hours of Northrop?  9:10 am - 3:40 pm

How early can I drop my student off in the morning? The earliest drop off is 8:55 am at Door #12 on the north side of the building.

Can my student eat breakfast at school? Yes. Breakfast is free and available to all students who want it in the morning.  Students eating breakfast will eat in the cafeteria and then will go to class by 9:08am.

 

Where do I drop off my student?  Student drop off is at Door #12 on the 43rd St. side of the building. Staff open doors to welcome students at 8:55 am. 

Where do students who walk to school enter?  Students who walk should enter at Door #12 on the north side of the building.

Are there bike racks where students can lock their bikes?  Yes, there are bike racks on the north and south side of the building.

What do I do if my student is late to school?  At 9:10am, all doors are locked. Please enter through Door #1 (main entrance) and check your student in the main office. 

Can I walk my student to their classroom everyday? Yes, until Wednesday, Sept.14.  On Wednesday, Sept. 14, we will require all caregivers to allow their students to enter the building by themselves.  The purpose of this is to allow caregivers to help their student get acclimated to the building and then to foster the student’s independence so they can make their way to the cafeteria for breakfast or their classroom on their own.    

My child isn’t feeling well. Who do I contact to let them know of their absence? Please call the health office to report any absences at 612-668-4524. Please note that Ms. Donna, our Health Assistant, doesn’t arrive at work until the bell time, so please leave a message and she will get back to you when her day starts. 

Lunch 

How much is school lunch for my student? A student lunch costs $2.75.

How can I pay for my student’s lunch? Please go to the Titan website to create an account for your student. You can load money onto their account. https://cws.mpls.k12.mn.us/titan_family_portal

                                                                            Other Questions:

I have to pick up my student early from school for an appointment. How do I do that? Please come to the front door and ring the doorbell. Please come to the office to sign your student out and we’ll call them down to meet you.

My student forgot something at home, can I bring it to them at school? Yes, you can. Please come to the front door and ring the doorbell. Please come to the main office and Sasha will help you. 

I would like to volunteer in my child’s classroom. How can I do that? Volunteers will be limited to 2 volunteers at one time in the classrooms. Please reach out to your child’s teacher for volunteer opportunities. 

End of Day

How does student pick up work at the end of the day? Caregivers pick up students on 32nd Ave, near the cafeteria at 3:40 pm. Students will be lined up in their classes. Only immediate caregivers and emergency contacts are allowed to pick up students. If you need to make adjustments to authorize others for pick up, please contact the main office.
