Welcome to Room #113

Greetings Northrop Community,

My name is Mr. Shoemaker and I teach first grade in room 113. This is my fourth year at Northrop and my first teaching grade 1. I previously taught environmental education as Northrop’s School Naturalist. Prior to that, I taught environmental education for many years at Wargo Nature Center in Lino Lakes. I specialized in kindergarten through second grade school groups from Anoka County schools.

I have a Masters of Education degree from St. Thomas and am licensed for K-6th grade elementary education, My wife Nancy and I live in South Minneapolis with our two daughters, both of whom attend Minneapolis Public Schools.

Besides basic math and literacy, we do a lot of science, art, and singing in our class. First grade students need to move their bodies frequently, so I employ a lot of active, hands on learning. I love working with six and seven year olds and invite you to visit my classroom.
