Welcome to Ms. Sam's Page!

Hello! My name is Samantha Johnson and I am so happy to be a part of the Northrop Community. This is my second year at Northrop and my second year in the district as an MPS social worker. I grew up in Northeast Minneapolis and attended Minneapolis Public Schools from kindergarten to 12th grade. I am happy to be giving back to MPS. As an elementary school social worker I support students, staff, and families in various ways including, but not limited to, facilitating small group and one on one social emotional skills lessons, offering assistance to homeless and highly mobile students and families, intervening in matters of attendance, facilitating special education due process, coordinating care between outside providers and staff, consulting with teachers regarding student needs, and serving as the point person for mental health and child welfare concerns.

I graduated with my masters in social work from the University of St. Thomas/St. Catherine University  in 2016 and received my title as Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in January of 2019.  I have experience with consulting with Head Start regarding mental health, working with and in schools, early childhood mental health, trauma, attachment, and childhood development.
